I am a 31 32 year old Englishman living in the South-East of England, working in a faceless multinational organisation, sitting behind a computer screen all day! Last week I handed in my notice, with the aim of eventually jetting over the other side of the world to seek new experiences in New Zealand. Something I really should have done years ago… but you know how it is… it’s easy to fall into the same routine – and change is always scary.
I have created this blog, first and foremost to give me some focus with my planning, and to record my journey from start to hopefully a nice cheeky ending in New Zealand! It might also be of interest to some peeps reading this around the world. Who knows?
I handed in my notice to my boss on the 16th September 2009, requesting my leaving date to be 18th December 2009. This has given me 3 months to put my plans into action, and hopefully by Christmas, have some solid news. Ideally, I want to enjoy the Christmas and New Year period with friends and family, get my possessions and flat sorted, and jet out to New Zealand in January at some point. I realise that life throws some curve-balls, so this blog will record the highs and lows of my journey.
Admittedly I’m a bit nervous about the whole thing, it’s a big change jacking in a job you have had for nearly 8 years, and upping-sticks to start a new life pretty much from scratch. But I’m sure it will be an adventure, and hope it will be the best thing I have ever done. I visited New Zealand for a month in 2008 and had a great time, and fell in love with the country. I also have a number of friends and family who live in various spots up and down the 2 islands… so it’s not as though I will feel alone in a strange country and culture.
